Jens Pfeifer Director, Writer, Documentary Filmmaker

Jens Pfeifer was born in Hagen, Germany. He works as filmmaker for media outlets and broadcasters. His documentary NO ASHES NO PHOENIX about a basketball team which always loses won the Best Feature Award at the Slamdance Festival (USA) and was nominated for the German Documentary Award.

Jens worked on film projects in Syria, in the States, in the North Sea, the Alps and other places. He followed bands, athletes, elite soldiers, farmers, teenagers, gourmet chefs and other people with good stories.

During a documentary project at the Syrian-Turkish border in 2014 Jens started writing screenplays, especially focused on political stuff and also on stories for young audience. He is alumnus of the one-year German screenplay program Drehbuchwerkstatt München.

Jens works both on documentary and fiction projects, in Writer’s Rooms and in his own chamber. His focus is on showrunning documentary projects and developing stories – often accompanied by intensive archival research.

In most of his work he uses participant observation as a basic tool for a deep dive into locations, story worlds and characters because there’s still some reality out there.
